Safeguarding children and young people

'Safeguarding' is keeping children and young people safe from abuse and neglect and making sure they can grow up healthy and well prepared for adult life.

If you are a child or young person, this part of the website is for you. We can help if:

  • you are being mistreated or abused by someone and you are not sure what to do
  • you think another child/young person is being mistreated or abused and want to report your concerns
  • you need advice or need to talk to someone, and want to confidentially talk to us
  • you want to tell us how we can keep the children and young people of Trafford safer

If you need help

If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of yourself or another child or young person under the age of 18 then please phone Trafford Children's First Response on 0161 912 5125 during the day, or the Emergency Duty Team on 0161 912 2020 if it’s an emergency at night or weekend.

If you or another child or young person is in immediate danger, then call the police on 999.

You could also phone Childline on 0800 1111 or visit their website. This Childline YouTube video shows you what will happen if you phone them.

The NSPCC can also help on 0808 800 5000.  This NSPCC YouTube video shows what happens when you call the NSPCC.

What is confidentiality?

Confidentiality means that the person you are talking to will not tell anyone what you have talked to them about if you don’t want them to. But on some occasions, if someone is at risk of being harmed, they may have to tell someone else. Anyone who works with you should tell you what they will and won’t keep confidential.
